Calligraphy is mainly about the thick and thin lines. Downstrokes are thick, upstrokes are thin. It is achieved by applying pressure while writing the downstrokes. For faux calligraphy, one can initially write in mono line and then add a parallel line to all the downstrokes to thicken it. Then fill in the lines with black so that it looks like calligraphy.
